Reflections and goals

About

As we close out 2016, it is time to make plans for the coming year.  I always like to take this time to look over the past year and review the accomplishments, successes, as well as mistakes and failures.  I do this in order to set goals for the coming year.  I’ve always been a firm believer in setting both realistic and far-reaching goals to help guide me.  I do this both professionally and personally.  It doesn’t mean that we always achieve the goals, but success is defined by the journey and not necessarily the destination.

So what are your goals for 2017?  What do you want to accomplish?  I want to challenge all of you to reach for the stars this year and work to be your best.  As athletes, we all understand the challenges of commitment and doing your personal best.  It’s tough to stay committed sometimes to our fitness goals, but the end result is worth it.

We are all part of a big community of athletes and we need to support one another to achieve our objectives.  There are several things you can do to help the community this year.  Even if you don’t participate as a participant, you can still support.

1. Sign up for a local event and support the cause.  Not all events are non-profit but all help support the local community.  Your participation helps make these possible no matter what your level is.

2. Volunteer for a local event.  Volunteers are the lifeblood of an event.  It takes a lot of work to host an event and your support is always welcome.  It will also give you an idea of what it takes to put one on.

3. Create an event of your own.  This is tough but we’re here to help.  Every race had a starting point and done right will be well worth the effort.

4. Donate to the event.  If you can’t participate or volunteer, then provide sponsorship or a donation to the event to help them out.  It costs a lot of money to put an event on and every little bit helps.

I hope you will join us at one of the many events we will be involved with.   Be sure to thank the volunteers, sponsors, race directors, timing staff, vendors, etc.  They all come together to create an event that you will hopefully enjoy.

Here’s to 2017.

See you at the race!
