End of the World

About

Since you're reading this, obviously the world didn't end but we are closer to the end of the year.  For many, it's a time of reflection and a time to think about the coming year.  Besides being an annual holiday and a time for family, gifts, worship, and rest, it's also a great time to look back on where you've been and where you want to go.  A new year always holds the promise of new things and a time to reinvent.

2012 has been a phenomenal year in the athletic community.  The number of events one could participate in has expanded to mind blowing proportions.  By all accounts, 2013 looks to be even bigger.  We're seeing more and more people waking up and doing something about their health.  Whether it is simply going to the gym a couple of days a week or hitting the pavement and getting the miles in, record numbers of people are getting involved.  This has been a huge opportunity for event organizers and non-profit groups to host events.  People want to participate in these activities and there are lots of them to choose from.  Some are the tried and true 5Ks and other distance running events while others have a unique flair to them such as the new color runs or zombie runs.  Whatever the type of event, you should make it a point to get out there and participate.

Besides the obvious benefits of improving your health, there is also the opportunity to meet new people, see new places and maybe even come away with some recognition.  Some people simply enjoy the event for the cause that it supports and don't really care about the competition while others love to compete and see how well they can perform.  It doesn't really matter why you get out there and participate as long as you do.  Maybe you're looking for a new challenge or a new distance.  It might be a time to step up from a 5K and tryout a 10K or even a half-marathon.  Maybe you've been competing at the longer distances and simply need the challenge of a shorter and faster distance.  If you've been a road runner, think about trying out trail running.  If you've always been a runner, maybe try cycling or if a cyclist try running.  The possibilities are endless and all to your benefit.

We're personally excited about the prospects of 2013.  A lot of the favorites events we've come to love over the years are returning, but we're also seeing some new events that sound like a lot of fun.  We hope that all of these will be successful to benefit the hosting organization.  You can help by getting involved either as a participant or even a volunteer.  Whatever you do just get out there.  Athlete Guild will be there as your partner.

Enjoy the holiday, Merry Christmas, Happy New Year, and see you on the road in 2013!
