Celebrate Dia de los Muertos (Day of the Dead) on Saturday, October 29, 2016 with the 4th ANNUAL morning 5K Run/Walk! NEW location at Hernandez Elementary on 333 Stagecoach Trail in San Marcos for 2016! Add to the FUN and wear your favorite Day of the Dead running costume! FACE PAINTING provided for early arrivals! Take PHOTOS with our mascots, the legendary Catrina & her escort, Juanito! MUSIC by DJ Jesse Cruz/Jammin X-Press! DOOR PRIZES! MULTIPLE chances to win UNIQUE trophy prizes! Sponsor a MEMORY BOARD for display at the race in honor of a loved one who has passed, or place their name on the BUTTERFLY TREE. This is an official USTAF sanctioned event. Mr. Tomas Cuevas has been selected as the 2016 Dia de los Muertos honoree & will be celebrated for his lifetime of generosity and service to the San Marcos community. 5K proceeds are allocated to two local 501C3, tax exempt non-profit organizations: the Johnnie T. Rosales Memorial Scholarship (http://johnniejam.org/) which distributes annual scholarships (>$8,000 since 2010) to selected San Marcos High School graduating seniors, and the Centro Cultural Hispano de San Marcos (www.sanmarcoscentro.org, a local cultural center and museum.
